The Economic Freedom Fighters in Mpumalanga accept Wednesday’s by-elections as they are, a leader has said.

EFF Mpumalanga leader Collen Sedibe said his party accepts the results of Delmas and Mayflower as they are because “that’s how people chose to vote”.

“Well, that’s the outcome of the by-elections and we all have to accept it,” Sedibe said on Thursday night.

The EFF got 5.36% to the DA’s 33.84% and ANC’s 55.75% in fiercely contested Delmas by-electons. In Mayflowers ward 7 the EFF only managed to garner 4.4% of the vote to the ANC’s 82%.

The DA didn’t contest in Mayflower, citing reasons that by-elections are “expensive” after they got low votes in 3 August 2016’s local government elections.

Sedibe said they kept close eyes on IEC officials to not rig votes.

“There were no incidents of quarrelling and at the end of the day people decided to vote for the parties that they voted for,” he said.
