Eleven people lost their lives on Mpumalanga roads during this past long weekend.
Mpumalanga safety and security MEC Pat Ngomana has sent condolences to the victims of the crashes that left people injured and dead.
Spokesman Joseph Mabuza said Ngomana urged motorists to plan their journey on time in order to not find themselves speeding.
He said Ngomana expressed concerns on the rise of irresponsible driving on the province’s roads.

“He also urged motorists to be observant as this can help reduce road crashes,” said Mabuza.
Two separate accidents, one on the N4 Schoemanskloof road and another on the N17 road between Bethal and Trichardt, claimed 8 lives.
“A Toyota Avanza was hit on the side by a BMW SUV after the Avanza lost control and stopped on an oncoming traffic lane. Three females died on spot in the Avanza,” Mabuza said, adding five others were seriously injured and hospitalised.
In the N17 road crash, both drivers of the cars that collided head-on died as well as their passengers.
“MEC Ngomana sends condolences to the families of the deceased and also wishes the injured a speedy recovery,” Mabuza said.
