The new chairman of the provincial house of traditional leaders in the Mpumalanga province has been announced.
He is Inkosi Sandile Ngomane of the Hhoyi tribe in Malelane.
Ngomane is taking the reigns for the next five years from Kgoshi Lameck Mokoena.
Inkosi Cecil Mahlangu was elected the deputy chairman and Kgosikgadi Anastacia Mohlala, Inkosi William Mahlangu and Inkosi Bheki Mnisi additional members of the House of Traditional Leaders executive committee.
The Mpumalanga government said they had confidence that the election of the new executive will strengthen the partnership between government and the Mpumalanga traditional leaders “in pursuit of a goal to improve the lives of communities in tribal areas”.

Co-operative governance and traditional affairs MEC Refilwe Mtshweni said traditional leaders were important players in government’s efforts to deliver basic services to the poor, especially those in remote, tribal and rural areas.
“Communities in tribal areas bear the brunt of unfavourable economic conditions,” she said.
“As we pursue efforts to improve their lives and the delivery of basic services, traditional leaders are a crucial lever for these efforts. We look forward to the new executive in this term to advance the gains made by the previous executive,” Mtshweni said.
