The ceremony is part of the National Teachers Awards.

Top Mpumalanga teachers will reap the fruits of their hard work when a provincial teachers awards-giving ceremony is convened at the Mbombela stadium.

Education MEC Reginah Mhaule will officially hand out the awards to the deserving teachers at the stadium on 20 October 2017.

The schools nominate the teachers and send the name of the teacher to the department.

“We should always salute teachers,” she said.

“Because without them and their hard work, the world was going to be a dark place where ignorance, fear and poverty would reign supreme,” Mhaule said.

On 5 October of every year the world honours the role and importance of teachers in the classroom and community.

The day aims to raise awareness, understanding and appreciation for the role that teachers place in educating and developing people worldwide.

“Teachers are the shining light of every society, for they always rise above the expected norm to mentor, inspire and bring hope to learners under trying circumstances,” the department said.
