SAA: Nolitha Fakude appointed… not Norah

After news came out that Dudu Myeni was out, social media was abuzz with news the new deputy chair of the board is Norah Fakude, a Mpumalanga businesswoman with close ties to President Jacob Zuma.


The deputy chair of the SAA board is former Sasol director Nolitha Fakude and not Mpumalanga businesswoman Norah Fakude-Nkuna.

Finance minister Melusi Gigaba on Thursday announced members of the new board.

It will be chaired by Johannes Magwaza as the new chairperson taking over from Dudu Myeni and Nolitha as the deputy.

They will begin work from 3 November 2017.

Others who will serve with them in the board is -:

– Geoff Rothschild

– Ahmed Bassa

– Tinyiko Mhlari

– Martin Kingston

The terms of the following were extended-:

– Bajabulile Tshabalala

– Peter Tshisevhe

-Thandeka Mogoduso

– Holmes Maluleka

– Akhter Moosa

The following are outgoing-:

– Dudu Myeni

-Tryphosa Ramano

– Mzimkulu Malunga

– Siphile Buthelezi

– Nazmeera Moola

– Gugu Sepamla.

Gigaba is expected to meet the new board soon.

His department say they believe the new board “bring talent‚ expertise and energy to the airline”.

“The minister would like to thank all outgoing Board members for their work at the airline‚ wish incoming members well with their tenure at the airline.

“The minister hopes that the new board‚ together with the incoming chief executive officer‚ Vuyani Jarana‚ will implement the airline’s structural strategy and bring it to financial stability‚ as set out in his 14 Confidence Boosting Measures,” it said in a statement.
