The MEC says the family value systems have vanished in our society.

Social Development MEC Busi Shiba has bemoaned the murder of four kids in Klarinet, saying it signifies something has gone terribly wrong in our country.

She addressed mourners at the eMalahleni civic theatre Tuesday 8 January during the funeral service of the kids

She said the kids were “betrayed” by their own mother.

“This clearly shows that something is wrong. Our family value systems are degenerating,” Shiba said.

Last-born Ethen Maditla was going to turn 1-year-old the coming Saturday (12 January).

He was found murdered together with his elder siblings – 8-year-old Minehle, Blessing (7) and 3-year-old Shaniqua Maditla.

They were laid to rest at the Old Pretoria Memorial Park, eMalahleni in a funeral service attended by government officials, community leaders and a string of residents.

Shiba said not so long ago a Middelburg woman threw out a 5-month-old baby from a moving car.

She said her department was really saddened by these incidents because they always know that children are more safer with their mothers than anybody else.

“These incidences are crying for everybody’s interventions,” she said.

“During this difficult time we need mothers of morals in our society who will cry, pray hard and ask God where have we gone wrong as people. Mothers who will teach their kids. As the department we are shattered and saddened by such incidents,” she said.

The funeral was highly emotional.

Their decomposed bodies of the kids were found by relatives on 30 December, after Zinhle allegedly phoned to tell them she had left ‘a present’ for them in her rented room in the eMalahleni area of Klarinet.

It’s believed she allegedly poisoned the kids to hurt their father. They were found wrapped in a blanket.

She is currently in jail – charged with their murder and awaits the date of 14 January 2019 to apply for bail.
