She said special attentions will be paid to areas like eMalahleni, Secunda, Middelburg and Bushbuckridge.
Mpumalanga Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane has promised her government will construct 100 000 houses in the next 5 years of her term.
She said areas like eMalahleni, Secunda, Delmas, Middelburg, Mbombela, Lydenburg, Nkomazi and Bushbuckridge will soon be gazetted as Priority Housing Development Areas.
She delivered the State of the Province Address on Friday 5 Jul 2019.
Mtshweni-Tsipane said it was government’s plans to “break the legacy of the apartheid spatial patterns” before 2030.
She said her government in the province will therefore ensure that settlements are built closer to work – unlike in the Apartheid times when these black people’s homes were far away from economic opportunities or business central districts.
She said this though depends on “the success” or the effectiveness of “Inter-Governmental and Inter-Departmental Relations which is central in ensuring properly coordinated planning, improved spatial, social and economic integration in new developments”.
“New human settlements initiatives will focus on up-scaling the upgrade of all informal settlements that are within the targeted towns,” she said.
She added the government was committed to dealing with challenges of social infrastructure, amongst them issues of water shortages, sewer spillages, unsafe pit-toilets and poor road infrastructure.
“We have listened to the concerns our people raised and we are taking them very seriously,” said Mtshweni-Tsipane.
