Shongwe said he was happy that the historic appointment of the first woman provincial commissioner in the province happened while he was at the helm of the department.
Community safety MEC Vusi Shongwe on Friday welcomed the appointment of Mpumalanga’s first female provincial police commissioner.
Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela was appointed to take over from Mondli Zuma whose term as provincial commissioner came to an end late last year.
Manamela assumed her duties on 01 July 2021.
At the official welcome meeting which took place at the Riverside government complex in Mbombela, Shongwe said the department was fully behind Manamela in the quest to make Mpumalanga a safer province.
