His mother asked neighbours to come and look at his lifeless body lying on his bed.
The police in Mpumalanga have condemned the murder of 45-year-old Happy Thwala, a police officer from Pienaar who was attacked and killed at his home.
He was shot 5 times – two bullets in the head and three in the chest – on Wednesday 3 August 2022.
Thwala – a sergeant by rank – was stationed at the Kabokweni police station in Mbombela. His attackers shot him with his own gun.
Cops arrested a 29-year old suspect who is alleged to be Thwala’s girlfriend in Dayizenza, Hazyview Wednesday.
Police spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said Thwala’s “brutal murder” happened around 7 in the Wednesday morning of 3 August 2022.
When cops arrived at Thwala’s house they “found him motionless, laying in his bed with visible gun shot wounds on his body”.
“Police in Pienaar were called to attend to a scene where a neighbour, alleges that she received a call from the mother of the member, requesting the neighbour to check on her son as she is suspecting that her son might have been murdered,” Mohlala said.
His car, a VW Polo was taken by the attackers as well as the service firearm and cellphone but were abandoned just a short distance from Thwala’s house.
Police boss Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela said cops have been murdered in the Kabokweni area in past months and this is worrying.
“We are very much concerned about the killing of members more especially at Kabokweni area since the past months. We like to send our sincere condolences to the family of our member,” she said.
The suspect will appear in the Kabokweni Magistrates Court Friday 5 August 2022.
