He says the party has in fact failed to deliver a better life for the general South African population.
ANC veteran Mathews Phosa has expressed a damning view on the future of the ANC in government, saying he sees the party “migrating towards a coalition power situation”.
This is due to its failure to deliver services to ordinary people and its unwillingness to tackle corrupt leaders.
He said the “patterns at the moment” show that the people – in their numbers – are voting against the ANC and that can’t be denied.
“I think that it’s looming large that to keep its majority in government the ANC will find itself having to look for allies,” he said.
He spoke to SABC editor Mzwandile Mbeje Wednesday night 31 August 2022.

Phosa said even though President Cyril Ramaphosa emphasised on fighting corruption when he took over office some 5 years ago but he is slow on actions.
He said the ANC is failing in “many fronts”.
“For me the biggest investment is to restore the confidence and trust of the people in the party.
He said the slow pace in dealing with those who were implicated in the Zondo Commission creates a dissatisfaction amongst the people.
He said it creates the impression that others were “untouchable” because despite being implicated in wrong doing they are still cabinet ministers.
“We shouldn’t have the untouchables just because you are an ANC member. We should deal with everyone. First we must deal with one another first,” Phosa said.
He said if they dealt with everyone with fear or favour the ANC will look honest, clean and decisive in the eyes of the public and that is what its leadership should do if they are serious about restoring its lost image.
On Phala Phala Farmgate
He said the issue of Phala Phala should be investigated.
Phosa said he doesn’t have a personal view on the dollars that were stolen at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm in Limpopo.
“We don’t have the facts and the facts will come from the investigations. So it’s not good to talk to quickly,” adding that the politicians in Parliament are politicising something that is illegal.
When asked about who he believes should lead the ANC, Phosa said that should be given to delegates to decide.
“I will only have one vote at the conference and it doesn’t make a difference. If delegates want him, they must vote for him and if they don’t want him they must vote against him”.
