Comrades feel he is the fittest to in fact take over as President of the ANC and usher South Africa to the promised land, like he did in Mpumalanga.

Deputy president David Mabuza’s DD22 campaign is currently gaining momentum in Mpumalanga, as the number of branches who keep nominating him gradually increase.

Mabuza is running to be the ANC President.

ANC spokeswoman Ngelosi Ndlovu told 013NEWS Wednesday 5 October 2022 afternoon they don’t actually comment about who is leading nominations but then so far around 55% of the branches have sat for their nomination meetings.

“Yes, the deadline for all BGMs is the last week of October 2022, and the process is running smoothly,” Ndlovu said over the phone.

Comrades feel that Mabuza is actually the fittest in fact to take over as President of the ANC and usher South Africa to the promised land, like he did in Mpumalanga.

For an example, three weeks ago a really large and influential group of comrades at the Gert Sibande ANCYL celebration in Nhlazatshe, where ANC NEC member Mduduzi Manana was keynote speaker, felt that Mabuza ought to return to the post of deputy president and for justice minister Ronald Lamola who ambitiously eyes the post to wait “a little bit” so that Mabuza succeeds President Cyril Ramaphosa at their next congress and becomes President.

But now, with the games being played by the Ramaphosa camp, comrades now want Mabuza to be President once and for all!

Branches are currently nominating Mabuza as President and former health minister Zweli Mkhize as his deputy.

They also picking former Gauteng Premier David Makhura as a favoured candidate for the secretary-general position, Febe Potgieter-Gqubule deputy secretary-general and former Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina as treasurer-general, while Limpopo leader Stanley Mathabatha runs as national chair.

One of Mabuza’s lobbyists, David ‘Mdavu’ Nhlabathi, said the “unfolding events” in Mpumalanga are embarrassing the PEC which last month pronounced Ramaphosa as President, Lamola as his deputy.

Also the camp wants former KZN secretary Mdumiseni Ntuli as secretary-general.

“The top-down approach of the PEC is not actually working. They have been trying to influence branches to nominate their people against the electoral guidelines of the ANC,” Nhlabathi told the 013NEWS reporter.

He said the reason Mkhize is need to be deputy president is because Mkhize can actually do his job diligently.

“The PEC took an unfortunate decision but branches have defied them. DD is one of the best leaders that the ANC has produced, we want to be led by him”.

“One thing important that the PEC should be aware of is to tell branches who to nominate and plunge the ANC into further factionalism.

“Someone who understands the ANC will tell you that when the step-aside was implemented Mkhize voluntarily co-operated to clear his name but why doesn’t comrade Ramaphosa do the same while the investigations into his Phala Phala scandal are investigated.

“That is unfair, I think it amounts to gross abuse of power,” Nhlabathi said.
