Members of a†Mpumalanga†suspected†vehicle hijacking gang injured during a police†chase†on Sunday†are yet to appear in court, Hawks spokesman†Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said late on Monday.

“The court appearance day is†Tuesday,” Mulaudzi told 013NEWS.

One suspect was killed during the shoot-out when the Hawks police unit†chased him to a house in Kriel, where 7 other men were.

“They opened fire on us. We called back-up and one of the suspects was†shot dead. One of our members was also shot and is in hospital,Ē†Mulaudzi said on Monday evening.

“Another 2 of the 8 suspects sustained injuries and are under 24 hour†police guard in hospital as we talk,” he said.

After defeating the suspects, Mulaudzi said police recovered†stolen vehicles at the house – three BMWs, a Chrysler Voyager and a
Isuzu bakkie – as well as SANDF bullet-proof vests, explosives and
firearms.

“They will be charged with attempted murder, possession of unlicensed†firearms and car hijacking when they appear in the Kriel Magistrates†Court†tomorrow†(Tuesday),” said Mulaudzi, adding the suspects are†between the age of 25 and 38 years.
