Health MEC Gillion Mashego addressed journalists, revealing the latest statistics.
The number of initiates who have died in the Mpumalanga area of KwaNdebele has risen to four.
Health MEC Gillion Mashego sent his condolences to the family of the four boys who lost their lives.
Mashego addressed journalists in KwaMhlanga on Wednesday afternoon.
“By this time we have lost four initiates‚” he said.
“There are certain things that we cannot discuss with women based on our culture‚” said Mashego, referring to why the exact causes of death won’t be made public.
Mashego said one of the four boys died in an illegal school, the three in legal schools.

Post mortem results confirmed they died of injuries caused by botched circumcisions.
Provincial traditional house leader Kgoshi Mokoena said they will make sure the law takes its course.
“If we discover that some of the deaths were due to negligence‚ we’re not going to smile,” he told media on Wednesday, adding that six boys were injured but had since recovered at the Middelburg hospital.
