He called for calm among members and said as leadership they will only be able to know what to do once their secretary has recovered and is discharged from hospital.
PRET leader Themba Sgudla has condemned “on a high note” the attempt on the life of secretary Sunday Mathebula the past weekend.
Mathebula was shot in the stomach by unknown men on Friday night (8 Dec) and is currently lying in a hospital intensive care unit.
Sgudla said they await Mathebula to recover from his injuries and will then get more information on what really happened and “be able to know what to do”.
“What we know currently is that he was shot by people who were waiting for him at his Vosman house on Friday night.
“He was parking his car and when he got out they were waiting for him,” Sgudla said.
“They took his phone and asked him where I was and then told him to phone me, he told them he didn’t know where I was,” Sgudla told the 013NEWS reporter over the phone.
“They said if he doesn’t leave PRET they will kill him, they tortured him and then shot him in the stomach and I don’t know whether they thought he was dead or what and then took him to the Nkangala Industrial Park where they dumped him,” he said.
“He was assisted by security guards who called for help for him to go to hospital and we found out on Sunday that he was in hospital and went to visit him. He is responding to treatment but the situation is bad,” Sgudla said.

“We don’t know who is behind this whole thing,” he said, “but we condemn it at a high note and call on all our members to be calm during this time, we’ll make a formal communication on the issue once he recovers and we have more information,” he said.
A case of attempted murder, kidnapping and assault is being investigated by the Vosman cops.
