He made a brief appearance before the eMalahleni Magistrates Court this week Wednesday.
The 32-year-old man up for the murder of Gabisile Shabane and†1-year-old Nkosikhona Ngwenya will apply for bail when he returns to court next week.
Sources say his lawyer made indications this week that when Thokozani Msibi appears again at the Down Town court they will apply for bail.
It is expected the state will oppose Msibi on the grounds that cops are still investigating and his release on bail may hamper investigations.
Police spokesman Brigadier Leornard Hlathi said investigations “regarding further suspects is underway”.
“The investigation is underway as it is believed the arrested suspect did not carry the evil act alone,” Hlathi said.
Msibi, who was arrested on Tuesday night, made a brief appearance on Wednesday afternoon and will return on 26 February 2018 for formal bail application.
The two children, 13-year-old Gabisile and1-year-old Nkosikhona, were kidnapped on the Sunday night of 28 January 2018 while they were sleeping with their moms at gun-point.
The men broke the dining room window of their home in the Hlalanikahle section of the Kwa-Guqa township, pointing a gun at their parents before disappearing with them.
Hlathi said the bodies of the kids were found decomposed near the N4 towards Tshwane and DNA testing is underway to determine they truly are those of Gabisile and Nkosikhona.
Meanwhile, Safety and Security MEC Pat Ngomane and Mpumalanga police boss Lieutenant-General Mondli Zuma will visit the family of the kids the coming weekend.
“We would like to thank the community for working hand in hand with the police as it led to the arrest of the suspect and the discovery of the bodies,” Zuma said.
