The woman had decided to end the relationship.
A man who was arrested in 2018 for the murder of a woman who was a mother to his 4-year-old child has been sentenced to 20 years behind bars.
Vusi Mhaule (29) pleaded guilty to the woman’s murder this week, admitting he was guilty as charged.
In his plea, the man told the Mpumalanga High Court that he and the deceased were in a love relationship and had been staying together with their child for 7 years before she decided to leave after experiencing some problems in their relationship.
Two months after their breakup, the deceased went to fetch shoes she had forgotten in their apartment in Kabokweni and the two began arguing badly.
Mhaule said he then took a panga and struck her several times on her head, killing her instantly.
NPA spokeswoman Monica Nyuswa said they welcome the sentence as it was sending a strong message to others during a time when femicide is so rife in South Africa.
