Officials say they noticed beneficiaries are struggling to receive the money because of long queues at the Post Office.
SASSA has announced that its R350 grant beneficiaries will now have options to receive their money at any financial service provider of their choice as part of a new payment system.
Beneficiaries will have to update their details from 3 to 9 August 2020 to ensure they get their money through ATMs.
Details can be changed by going through www.srd.sassa.gov.za, no later than Sunday 9 August 2020.
SASSA said the Payment of the R350 grants is quicker if paid into a bank account.
Beneficiaries have sometimes been forced to go home empty-handed after experiencing problems such as long queues and Post Offices running short of money.
Citizens without bank accounts were now encouraged to open one.
SASSA boss Busi Memela said: Please help SASSA to help you access the money to which you are entitled without delay by ensuring that your details are correct, the payment channel most convenient to you is selected and that the information provided is accurate”.
She said SASSA won’t pay this money into someone else’s bank account.
“Please ensure that the cell phone number provided is correct and is registered in your name,” she said.
“Just like with a bank account, SASSA cannot pay the grant into a cell phone which is registered to another person.
“We are a listening government and these changes emanate from beneficiaries who appealed to us to provide them this flexibility and we duly obliged,” she said.
