The wife of Mpumalanga police spokesman Brigadier Leonard Hlathi has reportedly died from Covid-19 related complications.

The 58-year-old Maleke Elizabeth Hlathi passed away on Saturday 31 July 2021, police spokesman Colonel Donald Mdhluli said.

She was a principal at Mhluzi Primary School in Middelburg where she lived with her husband and kids. She had 26 years of experience as a teacher.

“We wish to send our heartfelt condolences as police management to the Hlathi family,” said Mdhluli.

Mpumalanga commissioner Lieutenant-General Semakaleng Manamela said they will give Hlathi all the support he will need during this hard time.

“May the bereaved family find comfort in God and know that they are in our thoughts and prayers and that we will fully support them.

We know that as a wife and mother, she was a pillar to her husband, Brigadier Hlathi and their children. She will be greatly missed. May her soul rest in peace,” said Manamela.
