The auction took place at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala wildlife game reserve Saturday 5 March 2022.


South Africa’s billionaire Patrice Motsepe has bought four of his brother-in-law President Cyril Ramaphosa’s 15 Ankoles during the Ntaba Nyoni annual auction.

The Ntaba Nyoni annual auction was held on Saturday at his Limpopo game ranch.

Ramaphosa’s Ankole cattle are from Uganda and can live for close to 30 years. They produce both milk and meat.

Motsepe paid R4.7 million for just four female Ankoles at the auction, according to BusinessLive.

This was the second time that Motsepe bought the expensive cow from Ramaphosa.

Last year he attended the first Ankole auction held in South Africa – called the National Ankole Auction – together with Ramaphosa and spent just over a R17-million for one Ankole bull.

The cattle came from Ramaphosa’s Badplaas farm and also included Boran and Bonsmara cows.

In 2019, Ramaphosa bought a Boran cattle named Jameson for R500 000 at the Bull Ring Auction in Davel near Ermelo.

The calf of Jameson formed part of the Borans that were sold at the 5 March 2022 Ntaba Nyoni Annual Auction.
