Hawks bust killer of Sergeant Thembisile Ndlovu

The man had fled the scene using her vehicle after gunning both her and her husband down on 1 December 2018.

The Hawks in the Mpumalanga province have arrested a man in connection with the murder of Sergeant Thembisile Ndlovu and husband Jabu Khoza.

Police said the 26-year-old man was arrested in Lenasia, north of Johannesburg Wednesday this week and is charged with the couple’s murder at the Mhala Magistrates Court in Bushbuckridge.

The number of suspects arrested in connection with Ndlovu and Khoza’s murder is now three.

Ndlovu was stationed at the Calcutta police station near Bushbuckridge. She was a police detective.

She lost her life on the early Saturday morning of 1 December 2018 when three armed men entered their home through a window.

Once inside, a shoot-out between the intruders and Ndlovu ensued and both her and the husband were killed.

One of the killers died during the shootout and Ndlovu’s husband died later in hospital.

The remaining men fled off using the couple’s Chevrolet Spark – which later was discovered abandoned near the Bushbuckridge road. The case was handed to the Hawks in January this year to investigate.

Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said the men are charged with murder, robbery and theft of motor vehicle.

She said on the early morning of 1 December when the couple were attacked they were “awakened by a disruption inside the house and upon inspection they were fired upon by three suspects”.

“The late detective sergeant Ndlovu retaliated and fatally wounded one suspect.

“However, the other two armed suspects continued firing and sadly both Ndlovu and Khoza succumbed to injuries from the shooting,” said Sekgotodi.

Hawks boss Major-General Zodwa Mokoena has ‘appreciated’ the arrest of the men.

“My sincere appreciation to crime intelligence, metro police in Gauteng, TRT and Springs POPS for supporting our members. My heartfelt appreciation to the public as well for constantly providing information on the whereabouts of the suspect,” she said.

Bushbuckridge police woman and her husband are gunned down

The incident happened on the early hours of Saturday while they were asleep in their rented house.

The police in Mpumalanga are appealing to anybody with information to help them find the men who gunned down a female police sergeant and her husband while they were asleep in their home of Angin Court near Bushbuckridge.

The incident happened in the early hours of Saturday when their home was broken into.

Police spokesman Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said the three unknown men gained entry through a window and shot dead 42-year-old Sergeant Thembisile Ndlovu and her 40-year-old husband Jabulani Khoza.

Ndlovu was stationed at the Calcutta police station near Bushbuckridge.

“Once inside, a shoot-out ensued and Ndlovu managed to shoot one of the attackers who died at the scene,” Hlathi said.

“The other two suspects are reported to have fired at the couple, instantly killing the sergeant,” he said.

Ndlovu’s husband was rushed to hospital by neighbours who responded after hearing the gunshots but then later on died.

The two remaining men disappeared from the scene using the couple’s Chevrolet Spark – which later was discovered abandoned near the Bushbuckridge road.

Hlathi said police boss Lieutenant-General Mondli Zuma has activated a “72-hour plan, thereby mobilising all necessary resources to ensure that the suspects were arrested as soon as possible”.

“Zuma is asking the community to volunteer information that may assist in the investigation of the matter and a speedy arrest of the suspects,” Hlathi said.

Anyone with information should call the cops on 082 469 1250 or 08600 10111.
