He had visited the girl in Kwaggafontein when he allegedly strangled until she died but then a failed attempt to kill himself landed him in jail now.

A 24-year-old man is in jail after his female friend was found dead on 11 September 2017 in Kwaggafontein, KwaNdebele.

Police said Elvis Ntuli made a brief appearance at the Mkobola Magistrates Court on Wednesday this week, charged with the young woman’s murder.

The man has spent the whole of last week in hospital after a failed attempt to kill himself.

Colonel Mtsholi Bhembe of the police in the Mpumalanga province said the suspect was in hospital after he threw himself in front of a truck following the killing of the Kwaggafontein girl.

“The suspect only sustained minor injuries to the head and was then taken to custody,” said Bhembe.

“He left the [crime] scene and allegedly tried to commit suicide by throwing himself in front of a moving truck, but did not die even though the truck hit him,” he said.

He returns to the Mkobola Magistrates Court on 2 October 2017.
