Colonel Mtsholi Bhembe of the police in the Mpumalanga province said the suspect was in hospital after he threw himself in front of a truck following the killing of the Kwaggafontein girl.
“The suspect only sustained minor injuries to the head and was then taken to custody,” said Bhembe.
“He left the [crime] scene and allegedly tried to commit suicide by throwing himself in front of a moving truck, but did not die even though the truck hit him,” he said.
He returns to the Mkobola Magistrates Court on 2 October 2017.
