The police in Witbank confirmed that they have embarked on a search for men who entered eMalahleni municipal MMC Mduduzi ‘Mswati’ Nkosi’s farm.

The men, if caught, will face charges of attempted murder and house robbery.

Police spokesman Colonel Donald Mdhluli said Mswati sustained “some injuries” at midnight 26 September 2021.

“No one has been arrested as yet and the SAPS urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via the MYSAPS APP. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous,” Mdhluli said, confirming a robbery and attempted murder case has been opened in Witbank.

Mswati has since released a photo on social media standing with a friend, showing the wounded leg.

The 39-year-old popular and influential Nkangala ANC man has asked for privacy while he heals from his injuries.

A staff member at Cosmos Life Hospital about a week ago confirmed that they treated a “shot victim” who was badly injured on the leg.

“Some items were also taken from the premises during the incident,” Mdhluli told 013NEWS.

“We have launched a manhunt for the suspects,” he added.

“During the incident, the victim was reportedly shot by the suspects before they fled the scene with a water pump as well as some clothing items which were hanging in the washing line. The victim was later treated for his injuries in hospital and a case of house robbery with an additional charge of attempted murder is being investigated by the police in Witbank,” the spokesman said.
