The Mpumalanga ANCYL has disbanded all regional structures and task teams formed already in other regions.
Member of the regional executive committee of the Gert Sibande ANCYL, Gracious Shabangu, has his eyes glued on the position of Gert Sibande ANCYL chairperson, come congress.
Posters are already out and his lobbyists believe Shabangu is person to bring back the ANCYL to life.
“His dedication to the struggle of the betterment of young people and his character that appeals to the youths is what makes him an outstanding contestant,” one of his lobbyists based in the Govan Mbeki sub-region told the 013NEWS reporter.
Shabangu will face-off with Thulasizwe Thomo, the league’s regional spokesman, who is also vying for the position of Gert Sibande ANCYL chairperson.
An elective congress of the league in the region will determine the successor of Trevor Nkosi, the personable and popular regional youth leader, who was elevated to become the provincial deputy chairman of the league during a congress in July 2016.
Nkosi was also elected the additional member of the Gert Sibande ANC REC in June 2017.
Supporters of Shabangu want Mcebo Zwane as the regional secretary while supporters of Thomo want current secretary James Nkosi to retain the post.
Ndumiso Vilakazi is also punted as the treasurer in the Shabangu slate.
A task team is expected and will announce the date of the congress.
